Occasionally problems do occur with appliances. If you or your child has a problem with a removable appliance, simply remove the appliance and call our office for an appointment to correct the problem.

If you or your child is wearing fixed appliances, you need to know how to recognize problems and how to solve them, at least temporarily until you can return to our office for a repair appointment.

Problem Solution
Loose Band or Bracket If band or bracket is still attached to wire, leave in place. Place wax if uncomfortable. Call for an appointment. If it comes completely out, place it in an envelope and call the office.
Loose Wire With tweezers try to place wire back in tube. If this is impossible, place wax if there is any discomfort.
Poking Wire Try to push sticking wire down with a spoon or eraser. If impossible place wax and call for an appointment.
Lost Tie-Wire or Elastic Tie This is not a real 'emergency' unless the tooth appears to be moving improperly. Please call our office to have the tie replaced.
Soreness Soreness during treatment is to be expected. Warm salt water rinses and Tylenol are helpful.
Loose Tooth Loosening of teeth is common throughout treatment. This is normal and allows the teeth to move to their new positions. The teeth will become tight again after appliances are removed. However, if excessive mobility is noted, please call for an appointment.
Accidents Involving the Teeth Contact the office or answering service immediately. If a tooth is knocked out put the tooth back into the mouth and hold between chick and gum or under tongue. Go to a hospital emergency room or oral surgeon to have the tore replaced into its socket.
